The Question of the Unborn Daughter (A Pledge for Life)

Today, today, my heart began to shake—

What if the very first unborn daughter

Had been lost before she could awake?

What if the first light had been stolen,

The first sweet breath left unspoken?

What if she never danced in dawn’s embrace?

What if her smile never graced this place?

Would there still be sons to walk the earth?

Would lamps still burn with sacred worth?

Would songs still rise on festive nights,

Or would the silence swallow lights?

What if she never danced in dawn’s embrace?

What if her smile never graced this place?

Would mothers weep for joy and pride,

Or would the world just slowly slide

Into a shadow cold and bare,

Where love and laughter disappear?

What if she never danced in dawn’s embrace?

What if her smile never graced this place?

No blossoms blooming, no songs to sing,

No colors in the arms of spring.

No future held in tender hands,

No dreams to bloom in distant lands.

What if she never danced in dawn’s embrace?

What if her smile never graced this place?

The earth would sleep in silent sorrow,

No hope to light a bright tomorrow.

No sister’s love, no daughter’s grace,

No shining spark in this vast space.

No, no—this cannot ever be,

The world needs her vitality.

Today, today, this truth I see—

Without her, there’s no harmony.

No life can bloom, no heart can soar,

If daughters walk the earth no more.

So rise with me, and take this vow,

To change this fate, beginning now.

No more daughters lost to night,

No more stolen from the light.

Every mother, every land,

Must rise and firmly take a stand.

So rise with me, and take this vow,

To change this fate, beginning now.

Let every parent swear this day,

To love their daughters, come what may.

To cherish life in every breath,

To fight against this silent death.

No more daughters lost to night,

No more stolen from the light.

For every girl is hope and flame,

A future bright, no one can claim.

Her laughter, strength, her gentle hands,

Builds up our world, restores our lands.

So rise with me, and take this vow,

To change this fate, beginning now.

This is our call, our sacred plea,

To save the daughters yet to be.

Till every girl can safely grow,

And let the light of life bestow.

No more daughters lost to night,

No more stolen from the light.

Till love and justice rule the day,

And hate and fear are swept away.

Till every daughter shines so bright—

A dawn that banishes the night.

So rise with me, and take this vow,

To change this fate, beginning now.
